Who is Dzork?

Bas Keuning – vocals & keys:

Besides typing this text, I use my hands to push keys, to turn knobs en to hold a mic in front of my face.
People could recognize me by my length and overwhelming blondness. Apart from music I enjoy the world of theatre, wich I study in Arnhem. (But Utrecht stays my town). If there is time to spare you can find me with friends and beers, or maybe just with a book.

Influences: John Frusciante, Muse, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, the Who, zZz, Deep Purple, the Doors, Iggy Pop, Jefferson Airplane, Tom Waits, Kaizers Orchestra, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Bloc Party, the Hives, Sly & the family stone, George Clinton and the Parliament of Funkadelic, Warren Suicide, Mars Volta, Bob Dylan, Woven Hand, Shpongle, Kraftwerk, Red Hot Chili Peppers and THE COSMIC FLOW ITSELF.

Other enjoyable things; Stripes, sci-fi, circular arguments, chocolate milk, strawberries, newts, steam, juicers, red, whisk-e/-ey, mysteries, fly swatters, masks and nitric acid.

Guido Puijk – drums:

I hit stuff with other stuff, that’s what I do, like my father did before me (and, in fact, still does)! I try to hit stuff at least once a day and when it’s not drums, it’s some unsuspecting table.
Besides that I study 3D animation & Visual Effects at the Utrecht School of the Arts. Yes, I am a geek. I enjoy science fiction, video games, reading, women, meat and classic shaving.

There are a lot of bands and musicians that inspire me, here’s a small(ish) list of my favourite musicians;
Tool, Porcupine Tree, Limp Bizkit, Deep Purple, Daily Bread, NOFX, Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Specials, Blur, Gorillaz, anything by Damon Albarn really (although Monkey was weird), The Doors, Frederic Chopin, The Cat Empire, The Offspring, A Perfect Circle, Muse, zZz, Rise Against, Shpongle, 1200 Micrograms, anything Dubsteppy, Eels, and, who can forget, the man, the legend. Richard Cheese.

My biggest influences when it comes to drummers are probably Benny Greb, Gavin Harrison and Danny Carey, who are just awesome, and all play Sonor drums, which rock.

Mark Mulder – bass:

So let’s tell you all a little bit about myself. First of all my name is Mark Franciscus Mulder. I was born in the beautiful city of Utrecht, where I still live today. I am currently studying mathematics at the University of Utrecht, which is a lot more interesting than most people think. I guess this is closely related to my love for structure and order. Some other things are I love are Belgium beer, Greek and Italian food, computer games, logic puzzles and everything that’s psychedelic.

I have only recently learned to play the bass. To be honest it’s the first instrument I can really play. Nevertheless I think my skills are enough to play a little tune with the rest of the band and, most importantly, have a lot of fun.

There was a time when people used to call me ‘the Hippie’. This was partly because of my long hair and the necklace around my neck, but it is also reflected in my musical preferences. I listen a lot to the bands from the 60’s and 70’s. Bands like Santana, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, the Beatles, the Who, the Doors and Jimi Hendrix. When I listen to some more modern music I often listen to Britpop, to bands like Franz Ferdinand, the Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party and Editors. But the best band to ever walk the planet, if you ask me, is definitely Red Hot Chili Peppers. And when I’m listening to the solo work of John Frusciante I can do nothing but smile.

Lowi Willems – guitar:

Some things about myself that I think are relevant for the world to know: My favorite color used to be orange, but at the moment I’m a very big fan of green and purple. In the summer of 2010 it’ll probably return to orange again (World Cup in South Africa). Colors aren’t the only visual elements I’m interested in. I like moving and spinning objects, round forms, paintings, movies, theatre, people, waveforms, water, cheap but nice guitars (like my second hand Telecaster from Budapest), the view from Delphi down to Itea (Greece), old buildings, modern architecture, Star wars, Indiana Jones, fruit, computer games, the greatest footballclub in the world (Voorwaarts), basically all art forms, my friends and of course my girlfriend.

I try to play as much guitar as possible during daytime (and nighttime, unplugged), and apart from that, I like to hang around with anyone who’s cool to be hanging around. At the moment I’m studying Theatre-, Film-, and Televisionstudies at the University of Utrecht, so I guess it won’t be a huge surprise that I like to go to movies and stuff…

Since I’m in a band, people often want to know who our influences are, well, I don’t restrict myself to one particular type or style of music. I can listen to reggae, but just as easy to elektro, rock, punk, funk, krautrock, you name it.
So, some of the music I’ve been listening to for the last couple of weeks:
Editors, Daily Bread, Gang Of Four, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Wolfmother, zZz, Michael Jackson, Franz Ferdinand, The Klaxons, Bob Marley, Toots & the Maytals, Kyteman, Kraftwerk, Dzork (yeah!), Bloc Party, DeWolff, John Frusciante … but that’s all just from last week…
